Ductless mini-split systems are a welcome addition to nearly every home. However, when they stop working properly, it’s a bit more difficult to diagnose the problem than it would be with a traditional HVAC system. Here are three possible causes of the issues you may experience with your ductless mini-split system in North Canton, OH:
Power Supply Problems
If your system fails to turn on, the first thing to check is the power supply. Make sure it’s plugged in. Then, move to your breakers and make sure they haven’t tripped.
If you do find a tripped breaker, you may be able to turn it back on simply by flipping the switch. However, there’s a reason it tripped to begin with and flipping the breaker won’t resolve that issue. To avoid a fire hazard or damage to your system, call a professional to check it out.
Low Refrigerant
Circulating refrigerant to transfer heat is the basis for how your entire ductless system works. If the refrigerant is low, it can’t do its job, and you’ll find ice forming on the outdoor unit over the summer. During a routine maintenance visit, a service technician will check your refrigerant to ensure that it’s at the optimal level.
Blocked Outdoor Unit
In order to work, your outdoor unit must be able to circulate air through it. If it’s dirty or if brush or debris is too close, it can’t circulate enough air. This prevents the system from conditioning the air and can even cause the system to freeze up.
