Energy Incentives for Individuals in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

Audio File for Podcast: Energy Tax Credits
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provides numerous tax incentives for individuals to invest in energy-efficient products.
Residential Energy Property Credit (Section 1121): The new law increases the energy tax credit for homeowners who make energy efficient improvements to their existing homes. The new law increases the credit rate to 30 percent of the cost of all qualifying improvements and raises the maximum credit limit to $1,500 for improvements placed in service in 2009 and 2010.
The credit applies to improvements such as adding insulation, energy efficient exterior windows and energy-efficient heating and air conditioning systems.
A similar credit was available for 2007, but was not available in 2008. Homeowners should be aware that the standards in the new law are higher than the standards for the credit that was available in 2007 for products that qualify as genergy efficienth for purposes of this tax credit. The IRS has issued Notice 2009-53 that will allow manufacturers to certify that their products meet these new standards.
Until the guidance is released, homeowners generally may continue to rely on manufacturersf certifications that were provided under the old guidance. For exterior windows and skylights, homeowners may continue to rely on Energy Star labels in determining whether property purchased before June 1, 2009, qualifies for the credit. Manufacturers should not continue to provide certifications for property that fails to meet the new standards.
Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit (Section 1122): This nonrefundable energy tax credit will help individual taxpayers pay for qualified residential alternative energy equipment, such as solar hot water heaters, geothermal heat pumps and wind turbines. The new law removes some of the previously imposed maximum amounts and allows for a credit equal to 30 percent of the cost of qualified property. See Notice 2009-41.

Dear Valued Customer,

The purpose of this letter is to help our customers get introduced and participate to the GREEN CANPAIGN that Quality Heating and Cooling is launching and help us maintaining the environment in any possible way we can. From the early times of the new Millennium, Quality Heating and Cooling goals have been to help our customers in making their homes as comfortable and as efficient as they can be made by providing environmentally friendly products and maintaining their systems yearly . By doing so your heating and cooling system will continue to function efficiently, using very little energy and saving you money in the long run. We must be responsible regarding energy consumption and be concerned about future energy cost. After an environmental disasters such as the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico (about 200,000 Gallons per day) we can only imagine what the fuel, gas and electrical cost will be in the years to come. So let’s gather our forces and do what is best for our families and our beautiful home, Mother Earth. The following recommendations will help you and others saving energy while maintaining the environmental pollution to a minimum.

1.Make sure your refrigerator coil stays clean !!! Why ??? The refrigerator is the number one heat generator in your home. If the coil it is not properly maintained and cleaned, the compressor will run much harder and will use a lot more energy to operate. At the same time your A/C will run much harder and continue to cool the house from the heat of the refrigerator.

2. If you have a lamp that is located near the Furnace and A/C thermostat, we recommend to relocate it. Why??? A light bulb can generate enough heat to activate the A/C thermostat prematurely. The thermostat will think that it is warmer in the house and the A/C will continue to operate and use energy when it does not have to.

3. It is estimated that there are an average of 2 computers in every American home. Computers are a great asset to this generation. They also use energy, and produce tremendous amount of heat. Again, this heat will transfer in to our living space and make our A/C run harder.

As your Trusted Heating and Cooling company that has been serving you faithfully for over 25 years, we want to encourage everyone of our customers to help us in our GREEN CAMPAIGN by continuing or starting to maintain your Heating and Cooling system. Continue to save or start saving now and let us all look forward to a clean environment. For any additional information regarding the GREEN CAMPAIGN please feel free to contact us.
